Inductive Absorber Thermal Imaging Survey

July 1, 2019

During a recent electrical thermographic survey of a client’s site we identified high surface temperatures on an inductive absorber.

AC motor drives are often controlled by variable frequency inverters and these can produce high frequency ‘noise’ within the main motor cables. This can in turn cause damage to the motor.

Inductive absorbers are located over the main motor cables and are used to absorb these transient voltages and help prevent motor damage by converting them into thermal energy i.e. heat!

In this case, additional absorbers need to be installed as the surface temperatures have reached 115°C and may result in damage to the cable insulation.
